The route covered some 2000km between Paris and Cannes and takes in a variety of road, track and hill climb challenges. For this special anniversary edition a night stage was also added for the first time. Lajournade, who had led from the first day, took overall victory from main rival, Caron in his Shelby Cobra, by 3m 05s.

Denis Welch Motorsport were pivotal to the success of the Jaguar in winning the Tour Auto having had the privilege of supplying the running gear of the car including the engine, gearbox, axle and brakes, all of which take a great deal of punishment during the 5 day event through France.
