Friday's test session at the Silverstone Circuit pushed us to change the plans for Saturday's start...
After great results in the past, team Mark Pangborn and Jeremy Welch aimed to reach top of the podium in the Jaguar E-type, however they appeared on the GT and Sports Car Cup starting line in the Austin-Healey 3000!
Regardless of an unexpected Jaguar problem and a quick decision to swap it for Austin-Healey 3000 team Pangborn/Welch finished the qualifying session in 12th place to start from the 6th row in the Sunday race. The GT and Sports Car Cup contest, with a very competitive grid, promised a challenging race. The duet Mark Pangborn and Jeremy Welch in the Healey 3000 after a good, satisfying battle finished 1st in class and 11th overall - achieving one of the fastest lap times 2:35.383 with the speed 84.31mph (135.69kph).
Tony Worthington in his Austin-Healey 3000 moved up 8 positions during the race, extensively improving his qualifying time to finish 3rd in the class and 23rd overall. Congratulations!
Both, the drivers and spectators commented how ‘slow’ the full GP Grand Prix Circuit was this year when even the leading cars couldn’t achieve their best lap times from previous years.
