Competition drivers in particular require an accurate and reliable gear shift and in many cases worn parts can compromise the performance and enjoyment of racing a Big Healey.
Starting with the original factory drawings the Denis Welch Motorsport CAD team have re-drawn the component using the original dimensions and tolerances specified. A digital 3D model is then created which enables close examination of the design to ensure compatibility and fit with original internal parts as well as other Denis Welch Motorsport produced components. The use of CAD technology has significantly reduced the development timescale and the cost of prototyping, savings which ultimately make low volume production more viable and competitively priced to the customer.
The approved design is then used to produce a top quality casting produced from our own pattern equipment in cast iron exactly as the original. The rough casting is then CNC machined using the CAD drawings to ensure the specifications are met. These Healey gearbox cases are produced to exacting standards and are supplied complete with the rear mainshaft bearing housing, to suit the early or late layshaft.
With the production of these cases, at long last Denis Welch Motorsport has completed the final component to enable the building of brand new, complete gearboxes for road, race or rally use. Both the BJ7 and later BJ8 versions are faithful reproductions of the original part and are only available from Denis Welch Motorsport. The cases are available immediately and customers who wish to purchase one can contact the sales department on 01543 472 244 or they can purchase via the Big Healey website www.bighealey.co.uk.
