GT and Sports Car Cup
Denis Welch Motorsport fielded 4 cars, of which 3 were ex-works cars in this highly competitive race. Familiar Austin Healey 3000's, DD 300 and 767 KNX were joined by the 1959 Austin Healey 3000, SMO 746 of Martyn Corfield and Jeremy Welch. The car proudly wore the number 1 following Welch and Corfield's winning 2016 season.
This ex-works/John Gott car was part of a private collection and hidden from view for many years until offered for sale in 2016. It has undergone extensive restoration and preparation in our workshops and returned to the track for the first time since 1972. Sadly a technical problem meant the car was unable to finish.
The 2 hour race saw plenty of good quality, well mannered racing and a lengthy safety car period following an oil spill at the final chicane which caught several drivers out.
The chequered flag saw the GT3 Class won by Nils-Fredrik Nyblaeus and co-driver Jeremy Welch in Nil's Austin Healey 3000, YOP 999 who were comfortably ahead of their nearest rivals. Denis Welch Motorsport cars also secured 3rd and 4th place in the class, a great start to the 2017 series.

Jaguar Classic Challenge
2016 series winner Julian Thomas and co-driver Calum Lockie qualified 3rd in the low drag E-Type making a good start and demonstrated some skillful driving on the short Donington circuit.
The race was not without drama though and about 15 minutes in the car went off into the gravel trap whilst avoiding another car, losing several places and precious time. Thankfully it was recoverable and the pairing went on to finish 4th overall.

Coys Trophy
Also new to the team was the 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint of Julian Thomas and co-driver Calum Lockie. This classic American touring car is powered by a 4.7 litre (289 cubic inch) small block engine, producing in excess of 430 BHP. Sporting a Taxi yellow with chequered roof livery, the car qualified 3rd and finished in 4th place, 2nd in class.
An impressive performance given that the car was a relatively recent purchase and the first time the pairing had raced it.
