Not long ago we had the new signage put up on our building. You may ask what can be unique in our business signage, what is more interesting than the record breaking Austin-Healey on the board and the internationally recognisable Denis Welch Motorsport logo?
The inspiration for this new sign was the Internatoinal Speed Records achieved in November 2009 at Millbrook England. The Healey Endurance car with the two drivers - Martyn Corfield, who owns the car and Jeremy Welch who built it, covered 1000km at 148MPH to take the 1000km International speed record. The target was to run the 1000km distance - equivalent to 621 miles in approximate 4 hours. The car built by Denis Welch Motorsport in Yoxall, based on a 1954 chassis and body with a new engine, ran faultlessly throughout, not even using any oil during its 1000 km run.
As well as the International 1000km record, the car also clocked the “Fastest 100 miles ever recorded in the UK” irrespective of age of car, engine size or type of car.
The Denis Welch brand has more than 35 years of history behind them, and the family involvement in the competition side of motor racing extends back over 100 years, when Jeremy Welch’s great grandfather built the first six cylinder engine ever made in the UK in 1906. Our present development programme is headed by the Big Healey (KVS 484), which has seen success all over Europe.
